Hospital for Special Surgery is seeking an experienced Social Worker to coordinate all aspects of a patient support and education for people with newly diagnosed Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), a chronic systemic illness, and provide individual assessments and interventions. The Early Arthritis Initiative is the only program of its kind in the Northeast. This innovative program addresses the specific psychosocial and educational concerns and needs of patients and their families in coping and living with a new diagnosis. The role involves clinical work with individuals and groups.  The successful candidate will also be involved in program development with an additional emphasis on research.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Early RA Support & Education Program, a patient support and education program for the newly diagnosed
  • Collaborate with health care teams to develop content of curriculum and lectures
  • Participate in internal and external outreach on behalf of the program
  • Provide ongoing program assessment and evaluation
  • Participate in fundraising activities, including grant writing, in support of the Early Arthritis Initiative
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments of newly diagnosed RA patients and provide ongoing support and/or referrals to appropriate HSS healthcare professionals and community agencies as needed
  • Play an integral role in research and writing initiatives, with the goal of publishing in peer-reviewed journals related to clinical and program work
  • Participate/present relevant findings at professional conferences
  • Master’s of Social Work (MSW)
  • Current NYS License (LMSW/LCSW)
  • 3+ years Licensed Social Work experience in health care setting
  • Self-directed professional with excellent group work and program development experience
  • Highly committed to professional, collegial and organizational development
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional interdisciplinary team building and leadership skills to further multi-level collaborations
  • Demonstrated experience in academic research leading to published work in peer reviewed journals strongly preferred
